This Defence Standard defines the requirements for the manufacture, testing and supply of copper alloy sheet, strip and plate.
This Standard covers sheet, strip and plate in the following copper alloys:
1) 70/30 copper-nickel alloy;
2) 90/10 copper-nickel alloy;
3) Aluminium silicon bronze;
4) Aluminium-nickel-sil
This Standard replaces four specific alloy Standards for forgings, forging stock, rods and sections (Def Stan 02-780 Part 2, Def Stan 02-779 Part 2, Def Stan 02-834 Part 2, and Def Stan 02-749 Part 2).
General details common to each of the copper alloys covered within this Standard are detailed in the main body of the document. Specific details for the alloys are documented in separate material annexes to this Standard. If any conflict occurs then the requirements in the Annex for a particular alloy takes precedence over the general statements in the main body of the document.
The nickel aluminium bronze specification (Def Stan 02-833 Part 2) has been retained as a separate document because it is a Category 1 Naval Defence Standard. However, this alloy can be used in similar applications as the four copper alloys included in this document. Therefore the properties of nickel aluminium bronze have been included in this document for comparison.
