This standard sets out the requirements associated with persons working on or near to d.c. conductor rail electrified lines to enable them to carry out their duties without risk of danger to themselves or other persons. Further requirements are contained in the Rule Book GE/RT8000/DC - Module DC.
The standard specifies the actions to be undertaken by persons required to work on the operational railway with d.c. conductor rail electrification, or so near to it that danger might arise, including persons who:
a) assess electrical risk;
b) plan, prepare and implement mitigations of electrical risk such as isolating, short circuiting and issuing formal electrical safety documentation;
c) operate, maintain and repair d.c. conductor rail equipment
These work instructions do not apply to d.c. third rail systems employed on the Northern City Line and in the Liverpool area.
This standard is applicable to Network Rail personnel and to Network Rail's contractors.
Each of the modules which make up this standard should be read in conjunction with all other modules relevant to the activities to be undertaken.
Purpose
This Level 3 standard comprises of a suite of main modules and supporting modules. These modules provide a consistent approach to working on the operational railway with d.c. conductor rail electrification, in relation to the
dangers arising from working on, or near to exposed live parts.
