scope:
This specification applies to all cross-track cables regardless of cable asset owner.
This includes cables that may be managed by Station Infrastructure Managers or third parties that are required to cross Network Rail tracks.
It applies to all renewal, enhancement and maintenance work carried out on Network Rail infrastructure.
Purpose
Cable management is essential to the safe and reliable operation of the railway.
This specification sets out the installation requirements for cross track cables to control risks to the public and rail infrastructure while protecting and maintaining the required access to the cable assets. It defines requirements for both ground level and overhead cables crossing the track.
The specification defines methods of protecting cables from damage whilst mitigating other hazards such as cable sagging. The cable installation techniques are designed to minimise the restriction of mechanised track maintenance by reducing the installation of cabling in orange pipes on ballast beds.
