NR/L2/SIG/11752 ISSUE 3

Train Detection Handbook (aka RT/E/S/11752)

active, Most Current
Organization: NR
Publication Date: 4 September 2021
Status: active
Page Count: 11
scope:

The contents of this document apply to all lineside based train detection systems.

Train detection systems include:

• track circuits,

• axle counters,

• rail circuits (not yet included in this document), other types of wheel detector, e.g. treadle, electromagnetic proximity device,

• train position prediction systems, e.g. grade crossing predictor, generally for use at level crossings (not yet included in this document), supplementary systems, e.g., track circuit assister interference detector (TCAID), track circuit interrupter, track circuit operating device (T-COD), impedance bonds.

Purpose

This manual gives the requirements for train detection systems to enable the appropriate system specification to be achieved.

It also satisfies the mandatory requirements laid down in Technical Specifications for Interoperability, Railway Group Standard GKRT0028 and RIS-0728-CCS.

The train detection handbook is provided to set out the requirements for appropriate selection, design and installation of new and altered train detection systems in line with Railway Group Standards and Network Rail Standards.
