scope:
This standard applies to LU and LU Suppliers for new batteries, chargers, and associated documentation to be installed on the London Underground power network.
Where legacy battery and charger systems exist, preventing direct compliance with this Specification, e.g. 50V and 220V systems, the batteries and chargers should be replaced on a like-for-like basis, complying as far as possible with the intent of this Standard, until the associated equipment is replaced, and the battery and chargers made compliant.
This standard does not cover the requirements for UPS, OLBI, emergency lighting or for supplying non-power asset installations, such as IT and telecommunication systems.
Purpose
This standard states the technical requirements for the design, manufacture and testing of 50 V and 110 V DC supplies from batteries, associated chargers, associated equipment and documentation to be used for providing reliable d.c. auxiliary power supplies for the electrical equipment forming the London Underground power network.
The batteries and chargers are used to provide d.c. power for the operation of switchgear and other electrical equipment including local alarms and indications, intertripping, transducers and, associated electrical protection and SCADA equipment. The electrical loads consist of continuous standing loads and current pulses of short duration.
