scope:
The scope of CETANs covers all aspects of Civil Engineering.
London Underground manages infrastructure which has been constructed over many years, incorporating assets, materials and methodologies, some no longer used, and subject to system specific effects. CETANs are written to provide information and advice on these assets, materials, methodologies and effects in a way which may be helpful in managing the assets into the future. As individual new CETAN's are produced these will be added to this guidance document.
CETANs have been written for various reasons covering topics which are not readily applicable to the guidance documents which directly support the civil engineering standards. Hence this document is separate but forms part of the suite of Civil Engineering Guidance documents (refer to Section 5).
It should be noted that some CETANs were written some time ago and some references to currency of standards may no longer be correct. These have been left unaltered to show derivation of source.
Purpose
The purpose of this guidance document is to publish all advisory Civil Engineering Technical Advice Notes (CETAN's) in one document.
CETANs provide information and advice which may be helpful in managing the London Underground's Civil Engineering assets.
Section 3 of this manual has been structured to mirror that of LU's Category 1 standards.
