This specification defines the minimum performance requirements of thermal barrier materials inside high voltage battery packs. The goal of these materials is to limit the effects of a thermal propagation event to the battery structure thus keeping passengers safe. A wide array of technologies may be used in this effort including but not limited to thermal blankets, ceramic coatings, and mica sheets. Each technology has various benefits and considerations to be taken during the design process.
