This standard specifies prevailing torque type self-locking hexagon nuts (hereinafter referred to as "nuts") for use on automobiles.

The standard does not apply to nuts requiring weldability, heat resistance against temperatures 150 °C over (80 °C over for nuts with inserts) or cold resistance against temperatures less than -50 °C.
