This standard applies to new and altered stairways, which include public stairways, temporary stairways, non-public stairways, escape stairways (public and non-public), fire-fighting stairways, steps, fixed ladders, public ramps, non-public ramps, escape ramps and temporary ramps.
Note: Temporary stairs or ramps are those which may be introduced as part of temporary re-routing, construction works etc.
This standard applies to designers, contractors, suppliers and maintainers undertaking work within LU owned, managed or occupied operational premises.

Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to define the requirements for determining performance for stairways, steps, fixed ladders, ramps and handrails in all operational London Underground (LU) premises and property.
