This procedure applies to all new and expectant mothers, their line managers and supervisors within all functions of Network Rail.

Purpose

This procedure defines the process for identifying hazards and assessing risks at work that may affect the health and safety of new and expectant mothers and their children. Working conditions normally considered acceptable may no longer be so during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. This standard complies with the requirements of Regulation 16 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 ('the Regulations'). Implementation of the standard will enable Network Rail to comply with its legal obligations under the Regulations and meet its duty of care for new and expectant mothers.
