The vent and test valves, hose assemblies, and adapters covered by this specification are intended for use in hydraulic systems at a maximum operating pressure of 310 bars (4,500 lb/in2). Vent and test valves are intended for permanent or temporary installation; whereas, hose assemblies and adapters are intended for temporary test equipment. These components are intended to provide a convenient means of connecting hydraulic system piping or components to instrumentation or gages for the purpose of pressure measurement with a minimum of system fluid loss or contamination. They are also intended for the purpose of taking fluid samples, bleeding air from a hydraulic system, or venting of system pressure with a minimum of safety risk to the operator. Selected adapters are intended for coupling to MIL-V-81940/1-1 and MIL-DTL-81940/4-3 sampling and bleed valves to support the above functions. The vent and test valves are intended for use in systems that require two barriers for pressure containment. Material selection for valve should consider compatibility with mating system to avoid galling of valve threads, for example: selection of NiCu alloy valve or the use of dry film lubricant per SAE AS1701 for valve thread coating for an application that involves mating with CRES component or piping fitting threads.
