General Provisions

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2000 (Public Law 106-65, sections 641 through 644) significantly changed the retired pay system for those members of a Uniformed Service who first became members on or after August 1, 1986. Previously, they were covered by the Military Retirement Reform Act of 1986 (86 MRRA; henceforth referred to as REDUX). These members may now elect, upon completion of 15 years of active duty in the Uniformed Services, to either retire under the High-3 retirement system or receive a $30,000 career status bonus (CSB) and remain under the REDUX retired pay system.
