This Defence Standard defines the responsibilities, procedures, and organization required to specify, authorize and accept the Tests and Trials conducted during the construction and conversion of Surface Ships.

Its application to Weapons Systems is limited to Tests concerned with the Shipbuilder's installation work.

NOTE The use of the term Shipbuilder is to be applied, as necessary, to the person, firm or company building or converting the vessel, whether that be a Prime Contractor, Shipbuilder, sub-contractor or individual, with whom the MOD has a Contract.

It does not include 'Inspections' (except formal Machinery Inspections), the requirements for which are detailed in Def Stan 02-32.
