This document describes a Facsimile DCE-to-DTE Packet Protocol. This protocol is designed to detect the loss of octets sent by the Facsimile DCE to the DTE due to DTE inability to service the input channel.

This protocol was designed to support Facsimile DCE, such as those defined in EIA/TIA-578 and EIA/TIA-592.

This standard was designed to support communication on serial asynchronous connections, such as EIA/TIA-232-E or CCITT V.24 circuits.
