scope:

a. This instruction applies to in-service submarines when significant modifications are made to their Combat Control Subsystem (CCS) or its interfaces during industrial availabilities, modernization periods, or other designated maintenance periods. It does not apply to tactical subsystem updates that do not significantly modify their interface to CCS.

b. This instruction additionally applies to new-construction VIRGINIA (SSN 774) Class submarines until transferred to SEA(07) for in-service lifecycle management.

c. Certification of the Strike mission area on SSGNs is the responsibility of the Strategic Systems Projects Office (SSPO) and is not covered by this instruction. Certification of SSGNs for other mission areas under this instruction is coordinated with SSPO testing to minimize cost and impact to the ship schedule.

Purpose.

To revise test policy, and assign responsibilities for the certification of Submarine Combat Systems.
