The equipment defined by this specification is a Weather and Fixed Map Unit (WFMU) for the processing of search radar video returns for detection of radar weather clutter cells and the generation of iso-echo contours representative of points of equal energy reflected by the weather. The WFMU is intended to interface with existing air-search radar equipment and the Transmitting Set, Coordinate Data (hereinafter called the Transmitting Set) for the preparation of digital weather map reports for the Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCCs). The WFMU shall also provide the capability of limiting the maximum range of processing of search and beacon target data by the Transmitting Set.
