scope:
This specification covers constant speed, continuous duty direct current (dc) and alternating current (ac) diesel engine generator sets.
Generator sets are of the following types, as specified (see 6.2):
Type I - DC, single engine driven for surface ships.
Type II - AC, single engine driven for surface ships.
Type III - AC, twin engine driven for surface ships.
Type IV - AC, single engine driven for submarines.
Generator sets are furnished to provide one of the following service categories, as specified (see 6.2):
Ship service - Prime electric power required to power all essential loads and non-essential loads. Emergency service - Secondary electric power required for all essential loads in the event of loss of ship service electric power. Ship service/emergency service - Sets which are used to provide both ship service and emergency service.
