MODUK - DEF STAN 02-51

Type B Support Procedures

inactive, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 1 April 2000
Status: inactive
Page Count: 183
scope:

Sections 1-5, Annexes C to L inclusive, and Annex X of this NE are applicable to all Hull, Mechanical and Electrical Platform Machinery, Systems and Equipments sponsored by the SSC including control gear, machinery control systems, and miscellaneous item which are not appropriate to the General Naval Stores Inventory ie. Sections 6-10 of this NES. Miscellaneous items include:

Valves.

Flexible connecting hoses and bellows.

Shock or noise isolating mountings.

Gauges, switches, etc which are not directly associated with machinery control consoles and which do not form part of an on-equipment fit, or of a special-to-equipment but off-equipment panel.

Sections 1-10 (Spare Gear/Naval Stores) of this NES do not support:

Electrical Cables and Fittings.

Pipes and Trunkings.

Fittings associated with a. or b., other than valves, strainers, mud boxes, filters, flexible pipes and bellows.

unless they are part of an equipment, and known to be liable to failure, or made of special materiel (eg diesel engine injection pipes and their end fittings, propellor blade and stabiliser fin securing bolts, are supported by Sections 1-5 of this NES - in which case they, and any associated parts that have to be replaced in order to renew the basic failed item, are to be catered for). Such items may be supported under Sections 20-23 (Miscellaneous Material) of this NES, which sections are specifically and exceptionally called for by the Type B Support Contract for a particular vessel.

Sections 1-5 detail the procedures to be used to achieve the following:

the supply of information which will

identify Systems and Equipments relevant to Sections 1-5 (Spare Gear), and all of which are asterisked item in the Equipment Code Dictionary of NES 54.

facilitate the production of the Ship System and Equipment List (SS & E List) - as defiied by NES 52.

enable NATO Codification to be undertaken as required.

enable CRISP data to be supplied to DGST(N).

the supply to MOD(PE) of recommendations for Spares, in the four Categories defined in Clauses 0404 to 0406.

the procurement and consignment of approved spares, preserved and packaged to defiied standards

the monitoring and control of these activities.

Note 1: where equipment is supplied by MOD(PE) (Embodiment Loan Items, (ELIs), the procedures described in Clauses 0525-0529 are to be inplemented. This will have the same result as the basic action described below for the generality of Shipbuilder Supply Items (SSIs).

Note 2: Where the Shipbuilder is also the system or equipment manufacturer, including vessel-fitted system or equipments that are provided on board as fitted facilities for the Upkeep of fitted equipments, he is required to carry out all the actions appropriate to an equipment supplier as described in Sections 1-5.

Note 3: Where the Shipbuilder uses a Contractor to provide a "system", as opposed to discreet "equipments", it is intended that the Contractor of a "major system" generally be required by the Shipbuilder to implement relevant aspects of this NES on behalf of the Shipbuilder. In such cases it will also be necessary for the Contractor to meet those of his sub-Contractors' responsibilities which they cannot meet themselves, as would be the case for the Shipbuilder. Similarly, where an Agent is employed by the Shipbuilder, the Agent is to act for the "major system" Contractor as if he was the Shipbuilder.
