scope:
Part 1 of this NES comprises:
a. A list of the British and Defence Standards defining the recognized standards from which selections are to be made of the symbols to be used.
b. Reference to NES containing approved symbols which are not defined in British or Defence Standards.
c. MOD(PE) approved mechanical plant symbols which are not defined in British or Defence Standards.
Symbols used in Safety Signs are specified in NES 784.
Some of the standards listed contain options which may be qualified in other documents, eg NES 722 for drawings and NES 40 for the preparation of handbooks.
