Steel Forgings for Guns
Organization: | MODUK |
Publication Date: | 8 April 2005 |
Status: | active |
Page Count: | 42 |
scope:
This Standard specifies the requirements for materials, properties, processes, inspection and testing of major gun and mortar forgings. It includes a requirement for the suppliers to validate their proposed production route and for the assessment of product quality by cut-up testing of pre-production or prototype forgings. The quality of production shall be assured by quality control, inspection and testing procedures defined in a Process Control Schedule (PCS).
This Standard includes three schedules of compositions and the property requirements for these steels for use by the Design Authority. The Standard covers the supply of ingots, blooms (including bars), annealed forgings for machining and final heat treatment, hardened and tempered forgings and subsequent post heat treatment operations on forgings which have passed the acceptance tests as laid down in this Standard.
This Standard from which the selected steel can be chosen is to be used with the appropriate forging drawing and together they contain the necessary technical information required for tender or contract purposes. Where the drawing provides special or additional requirements to those specified in the Standard then such requirements are overriding with the exception of 9.4.2.
