This Defence Standard specifies requirements for a grade of natural barytes for use in high explosive substitutes and as a component of certain cements.

The designation 'Type QX' indicates that the material is suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established. Design Authorities requiring advice on particular applications should in the first instance contact the Directorate of Standardization, Stan 5, 65 Brown Street, Glasgow G2 8EX for guidance.
