scope:
This specification relates to a finishing paint for use in conjunction with a suitable primer for the protection of structural metalwork. In the case of steel structures the primer will be zinc phosphate primer complying with TS 10112, and for light alloys it will be zinc chrome primer complying with DEP STAN 80-5. In exceptional circumstances the use of red lead primer complying with BS 2523, Type B, may be authorized.
The paint is suitable for application by both airless spraying and brushing. If applied by airless spray a dried film thickness of 60 + 5 um will normally be achieved. If applied by brushing a dried film thickness of 45 + 5 pm will normally be achieved.
The complete painting system will normally consist of two coats of this finishing paint over two coats of the appropriate primer and will be expected to have an outdoor life of at least seven years in temperate climates. As the natural colour of micaceous iron oxide restricts the range of colours that can be produced, the paint is available only in the following limited range of colours which approximately match the colour numbers quoted in BS 4800:

Black
Silver
