scope:

This Defence Standard specifies the steel slotted screws selected in accordance with the guidance given in DEF STAN 53-11, for Ministry of Defence use in all new metric designs and wherever practicable for the maintenance of existing equipment with the exception of:

aerospace vehicles, or close support equipment for these vehicles;

applications at temperatures above 300°C;

special situations in which there is a critical requirement for screws of higher tensile or corrosion-resisting steel, or with surface coatings other than those specified in this Standard.
