Dieser Teil der IEC 60870 ist ein Funktionsprofil (FP) (en: functional profile) und definiert die Bereitstellung von TASE.2-Kommunikationsdiensten zwischen zwei Leitzentralen-Endsystemen. Es wird unterstützt durch die Transportdienste, die aufgrund der Transport-Profile implementiert wurden, die für den Netzwerktyp definiert wurden, der Leitstellen-Endsysteme miteinander verbindet. Siehe dazu Bild 1.

Dieses Funktionsprofil definiert die Bereitstellung von OSI-Verbindungsform-Präsentations- und Sitzungsdiensten zwischen Endsystemen.

ISO/ISP 14226 spezifiziert die AMM11-Profile für MMS. Die Teile der ISO/ISP 14226, die die Profile abdecken, welche als Basis für dieses FP verwendet werden, sind ISO/ISP 14226-1 und ISO/ISP 14226-2. Dieses FP ist so weit wie möglich an ISO/ISP 14226 angeglichen und erhält diese Kompatibilität durch den Bezug darauf. Es gibt über die ISO/ISP 14226 hinaus TASE.2-Anforderungen. Diese Anforderungen sind in dieser FP ebenfalls spezifiziert.
