Die ATV DIN 18355 „Tischlerarbeiten" gilt für das Herstellen und Einbauen von Bauteilen aus Holz und Kunststoff, z. B. Türen, Tore, Fenster, Fensterelemente, (Klapp-)Läden, Trennwände, Wand- und Deckenbekleidungen, Schrankwände, Innenausbauten, Einbaumöbel.

Sie gilt auch für Holz-Metallkonstruktionen. 

Die ATV DIN 18355 gilt nicht für

- Außenwandbekleidungen mit Unterkonstruktionen (siehe ATV DIN 18351 „Vorgehängte Hinterlüftete Fassaden"),

- Beschläge (siehe ATV DIN 18357 „Beschlagarbeiten") sowie 

- Verglasungen (siehe ATV DIN 18361 „Verglasungsarbeiten").

Ergänzend gilt die ATV DIN 18299 „Allgemeine Regelungen für Bauarbeiten jeder Art", Abschnitte 1 bis 5. Bei Widersprüchen gehen die Regelungen der ATV DIN 18355 vor.
