scope:

Standard VDI 3469 Part 2 covers the production and processing of Type NT fibre cement (asbestos- free technology) made from synthetically produced and natural organic fibres and is valid only in conjunction with standard VDI 3469 Part 1.

In contrast to version VDI 3469 Part 2:1999-02, this standard no longer contains any references to asbestos cement products. This is because a Europe-wide ban on hazardous materials containing asbestos came into force on 01 January 2005 in accordance EU Directives 76/769/EEC, 1999/77/EC, and 2003/18/EC concerning hazardous materials and preparations. A voluntary agreement between the Wirtschaftsverband Asbestzement (Trade Association for Asbestos Cement) which is now the Verband der Faserzementindustrie e.V. (Association of the fibre cement Industry) and the Federal German Government for complete replacement of asbestos in building products was concluded in Germany as early on as in 1984 (phasing-out commitment). In compliance with this agreement, building products in the Federal Republic of Germany have been free of asbestos since the end of 1991 and underground engineering products since the end of 1993 [1].
