scope:
In conjunction with other tests, shear tests examine the quality of a welded joint produced by sleeve welding with incorporated electric heating element (HM) and heated tool sleeve welding (HD). The behaviour and appearance of the fracture are assessed to provide information on the execution and quality of a welded joint. In certain circumstances, the manual combined torsion shear test and radial shear test are also suitable for examining the quality of the welded joint on site.
The diff erent materials and their specifi c material properties infl uence the quality of the welded joint and appearance of the fracture, and shall be considered during the assessment. The materials PE (PE 63, PE 80, PE 100), PP, PB and PVDF are normally used for sleeve welding with incorporated electric heating element (HM) and heated tool sleeve welding (HD). Combinations with alternative materials are possible, e.g. when sleeve welding pipes of PEX and fi ttings of PE 100 with incorporated electric heating element.
The results obtained in the shear tests cannot be applied to the creep behaviour of a welded joint
