Publication Date: 7 May 2007
Status: active
Page Count: 16
scope:

This standard specifies the method to be used for approval of welding consumables for use with naval structural steels. The standard is applicable to the initial and batch control testing of welding consumables for steels having minimum yield strength in the range 550 to 690 MPa. These steels are most commonly employed in submarine hull structure and are given the generic title HSS (High Strength Steel) for the purposes of this Def Stan. Requirements for final approval tests for HSS welding consumables are specified in Def Stan 02-770 Part 2. Approval of welding consumables for all other naval steel grades is to be dealt with by the reference to the standards of a relevant ship classification society. Clauses 6 to 14 of this standard are applicable only to the approval of HSS consumables.
