This standard deals with the erection, moving to another position, provision, maintenance, operation and dismantling of all road safety equipment, such as traffic signs, traffic installations and portable (temporary) concrete or steel road safety barriers, for the control, guidance and protection of traffic on public roads within the scope of the Straßenverkehrsordnu
In particular, it applies to road safety measures for construction works on or at roads of any type, public spaces (such as squares), footpaths and cycle lanes, local roads, trunk roads and motorways, where these are subject to the provisions of the Straßenverkehrsordnu
This standard does not cover

temporary ramps over and above ditch ramps for pedestrians,
auxiliary structures, temporary roofs and covered walkways (see DIN 18451)
site perimeter fencing and safety kerbs,
timbering for fall and impact protection (see DIN 18303) and
snow clearance and roughening of icy surfaces to ensure the unobstructed flow of traffic.
