Scope and application
This RP aims at giving guidance for integrated software dependent systems development, construction and operations in the energy (including oil andgas) and maritime industries. Systems under consideration are any of the systems involved in facilities and vessels operations in these sectors. There is no limitation concerning their size or complexity. This RP addresses the whole system, including the controlled systems, the control systems and also the links between the two
This RP provides guidance on the processes to manage ISDS throughout the life cycle. It describes how product requirements should be developed and does not specify any specific product requirements. Other standards, such as those referenced in [2.2], provide more product specific requirements. The level of the recommended activities in this RP corresponds to the mission criticality of the ISDS. The mission criticality could be either environmental, safety or business related and the higher the mission criticality is the more integrated the recommended activities are
The number of recommended activities to be applied varies from low confidence levels for systems with limited risks and business impacts up to high confidence levels for system which are business, environmental and/or safety-critical systems
A successful implementation of the RP activities will mean focusing on the initial phases of the system development but will allow much better early decision-making and significantly reduce the overall cost and risk for these systems
