scope:
This specification details the requirements of oil based lubricant formulations that should be compatible with current production processes and paint systems. These materials are used to protect sheet metal surfaces against corrosion and stains and may also act to enhance formability. Products used to protect the sheet metal primarily from transport and storage corrosion are known as mill oils. Products used to also enhance forming of the sheet metal by reducing the coefficient of friction are known as pre-lubes. The lubricant should be robust to allow parts to be shipped worldwide. Steel and aluminum producing mills and coil processors should apply these materials at their last process in the range specified in 3.1.1.
Acceptance criteria for performance and process requirements will be specified by each region. Materials approved to this specification have to be approved regionally. For example, if the material is applied in one region and shipped to another, both regions must approve the material.
