Purpose
The Manual of Style for NFPA Technical Committee Documents reserves Section 1.2 for a statement of purpose. The National Fuel Gas Code does not yet have a statement of purpose, but this section has been reserved so that Chapter 1 will not need to be renumbered if a statement is added in the future
