scope:
Reverse engineering is increasingly to be found in all phases of the product lifecycle, thus in-creasing the variety of cases of application and their complexity. This standard focuses on the description of potential application scenarios and the selection of a 3D data capture and pro-cessing technology suitable for each case of application. Important terms are explained in this connection. The state of the art, the necessary qualification of the user and the processes of 3D data capture as well as the generation of digital product models are described with reference to the cases of application. Particular attention is paid to technological characteristics which users should take into account when selecting a system, such as:
• accuracy,
• speed and automation options,
• flexibility and mobility,
• software interfaces, or
• basic contractual conditions and service.
In addition, interfaces for data management, trailblazing process flows in the product lifecycle as well as reverses engineering strategies are dealt with. Automation options for increasing efficiency are displayed in this connection. In order not to give this standard an excessively wide area of application, only the generation of geometrical data in mechanical and plant engineering is addressed and not the reverse engineering of electronic components or software.
This standard neither indicates procedures for determining the functional and manufacturing principles of products nor provides aids for the exact simulation of the CAD data modelled in the original product development phase.
