This standard is applicable for the representation of piping and hose assemblies, pipe and hose joints and penetrations in the technical documentation for scheme-drawings and plans such as general sketches and similar abstract descriptions for seagoing vessels, inland vessels, vessels of the Bundeswehr and other authorities as well as for offshore-units.

This standard lays down shape and meaning of graphical symbols for piping and hose assemblies, pipe and hose joints and penetrations.

This standard does not apply for graphical symbols for the technical documentation of hydraulic or pneumatic plants. These are given in ISO 1219-1.
