Testing of connectorised and non-connectorised polymer optical fibres (POF) - Testing of mechanical characteristics, environmental influences and aging behaviour

active, Most Current
Organization: VDI
Publication Date: 1 June 2017
Status: active
Page Count: 41
ICS Code (Fibres and cables): 33.180.10
scope:

The test methods described here are intended primarily for testing buffered fibres (combination of optical fibre and buffer). The standard thus provides manufacturers, suppliers and users with a basis for a better and easier understanding of the technical properties of polymer optical fibres.

As regards the testing methodology and instrumentation, the test methods are also applicable to cables. In such a case the test parameters (e.g. bend radius) only need adapting to the cable design to be tested. Relevant standards for the testing of optical fibres (such as IEC 60794-2-42) can be helpful in selecting suitable test parameters for cable testing.
