scope:
This standard specifies a scanning electron microscopy method for the qualitative detection of asbestos in technical products whose asbestos mass fraction is at least 1 %. The detection limit can be lowered by concentrating the sample (e.g. acid treatment, high-temperature ashing) and/or greater analytical effort. The method is also suitable for estimating the asbestos mass percentage in the technical product.
