This Guidance applies to all LU Train Operators.

The response options should only be considered if the Train Operator is certain that a "Bladed Weapon" incident is actually taking place on board their train.

Purpose

The following guidance has been developed by Government, BTP and UK rail industry, to assist London Underground employees in responding to a "Bladed Weapon" incident.

A "Bladed Weapon" incident is defined as an attack consisting of one or more people using items such as knives, axes or machete's, with the intention of causing mass casualties.

Employee responsibilities

Train Operators should take note of the guidance and understand the response options available to them should a "Bladed Weapon" incident occur on a London Underground train

Management responsibilities for those who train, employ or supervise Train Operators

As the accountable person it is your responsibility to ensure that the information contained within this guidance note, is made available to all your relevant employees, and that they fully understand what is expected of them in these circumstances.

All relevant employees should be refreshed and exercised at regular intervals on this guidance, in order to maintain their understanding and familiarity of it. The exercising and familiarisation can be done at a local level or in conjunction with Skills Development during Continued Development Programme (CDP), and other learning interventions.
