Management of Earthworks Manual: Earthwork Monitoring Strategy Selection and Implementation
| Organization: | NR |
| Publication Date: | 2 September 2017 |
| Status: | active |
| Page Count: | 24 |
scope:
This procedure applies to earthworks monitoring, to be used in place of carrying out interventions (where an intervention is not possible, practical or economic) or to manage the risk of earthworks failure until an intervention will be carried out.
The scope covers earthworks monitoring:
a) system selection, and the strategy for the mitigation of earthworks where the condition2 potentially affects the safe operation of the railway;
b) strategy for implementation as part of the earthworks risk control;
c) on new earthworks and earthworks remediation projects.
This document does not apply to monitoring installed as part of a ground investigation or the observational approach for remedial works.
Purpose
This document defines the methodology for selecting and implementing a monitoring strategy for mitigating risks associated with earthworks failures.
This document supports the control, 'earthworks mitigation', relating to the following risks:
a) loss of track support or track geometry;
b) slope failure leading to loss of kinematic envelope or track geometry.
