This procedure covers:

a) the selection of intervention type and option;

b) deferred interventions;

c) emergency works.

It applies to:

a) all earthworks within the Network Rail boundary as defined in NR/L2/CIV/086;

b) slopes outside the boundary that may affect the Network Rail infrastructure.

Purpose

This procedure defines how to decide when, and at what level, earthworks interventions will be carried out.

Interventions are chosen to manage risks once cyclical examination is no longer considered to be acceptable for controlling asset risk.

Interventions include the following types:

a) Maintenance;

b) Refurbishment;

c) Renewal.

This document manages the control,'earthwork interventions',mitigating the following risks:

a) Loss of track support or track geometry;

b) Slope failure leading to loss of kinematic envelope or track geometry.
