Scope and Applicability. The requirements addressed in this directive apply to stowage spaces for self-support and have been expanded to include: equipment-related repair parts and consumables (including classified repair parts), other consumables, hazardous materials (HAZMAT), medical stores, ship store stocks, and provisions (including frozen, chilled, and dry). These requirements do not apply to bulk fuel or ammunition stowage spaces.

Purpose

a. To set forth criteria governing shipboard stowage space requirements for supply support material.

b. Major changes to this instruction include updates to the ship type and type designations. This instruction is a complete revision and should be reviewed in its entirety.
