scope:
This standard covers thermal insulations of operational installations in industry and the building services, such as pipes, ducts, vessels, apparatus and machines, supports and other thermal bridges. The standard contains procedures for:
• the determination of the ecological insulation layer thickness
• the classification of components (surfaces, pipes, built-in components, thermal bridges) into energy efficiency classes
• the overall evaluation of thermal insulations of operational installations
The standard addresses plant operators and planners of operational installations as well as the involved contractors such as insulation contractors and pipefitting contractors.
Energy-efficient insulation of an installation requires the collaboration of several parties involved. The planner of the installation shall ensure that the spatial conditions allow for an energy-efficient design which can then be implemented using appropriate pipe and installation components and the required insulation thicknesses. The insulation contractor is responsible for the dimensioning and the proper execution of the insulation.
Demonstration programmes for support in use of this standard are available at www.vdi.de/4610.
