scope:
This standard applies to evaporative cooling systems with open cooling-water circuits and a cooling power ˃ 200 MW per air outlet. Hybrid cooling towers and cooling towers with additional forceddraught fans ˃ 200 MW per air outlet only fall in the scope of this standard if their emission behaviour (see Table B4 in Annex B) is demonstrated to be equal to that of a system according to this standard. The standard does not apply to induceddraught fan cooling systems.
This standard does not address the discharge of wastewater from evaporative cooling systems. Legal requirements pertaining to wastewater discharge shall be observed during operation (blowdown) and emptying.
