Applies to switches and switch-disconnectors above 1 kV and less than 52 kV a.c. up to 60 Hz for indoor and outdoor installation including their operating devices and auxiliary equipment. Switches and switch-disconnectors shall be able to make and carry short-circuit currents, but only to break their rated normal current. The publication deals with characteristics and the method of design and construction, with type and routine tests in detail and is complemented by clauses concerning rules for erection and maintenance. This part 1 of the second edition replaces the preceding first edition of IEC Publication 256.
