scope:
The present rules apply to traction transformers on single-phase a.c. powered vehicles and to the various types of reactors inserted in the main of auxiliary circuits of electric vehicles, such as: - inductive shunts for traction motors; - reactors used for transition between tap changer notches; - braking circuit reactors; - anode or cathode reactors; - smoothing reactors; - interference suppression reactors. The present rules do not cover accessories such as: tap changers, resistors, radiators, blowers, etc., intended for mounting on the transformers or reactors which must be tested separately according to particular rules. When tap changers are an integral part of the transformers, they cannot be separated while the latter are tested. Tests on tap changers alone shall be carried out in accordance with the relevant IEC rules.
