Determines the suitability of a fibre optic device to withstand the effects of change of temperature or a succession of changes of temperature. Two test methods are described. Test Na subjects the specimen to extremes of temperature with a very short change-over time. The test in essense subjects the specimen to a series of thermal shocks. Test Nb subjects the specimen to a more gradual variation of temperature which stresses but does not shock the specimen.
