This standard contains requirements and test method for zinc chromate pigments. The standard applies to the pigment zinc chromate yellow for use on paint and other corrosion resisting layets. The following types are distiguished: a. basic zinc-potassium, chromate (type 1a), rough composition: K2CrO4.3ZnCrO4.Zn(OH)2.2H2O; b. basic zinc-potassium chromate, lead containing (type 1b); rough composition: K2CrO4.3ZnCrO4.2H2O with a small quantity of lead; c. Zinc tetrahydrochromate (type 2); rough composition ZnCrO4.4Zn(OH)2. The test methods are mainly for cases for arbitration. They concern the original pigment and can only under certain restrictions be applied to pigments, precipitated from combinations with vehicles.
