The method is not applicable to waxes. It consists in saponifying of the product by boiling under reflux with an ethanolic potassium hydroxide solution, extracting of the unsaponifiable matter from the soap solution by hexane or, failing this, light petroleum, evaporating of the solvent and weighing of the residue after drying.
