This Part of the standard includes requirements for steel pipelines which shall satisfy the requirements set forth in NEN 3650-1:2003. The classification of the pipelines which fall under the NEN 3650 series is determined by the medium that is being transported. The relationship between the classification (Group I and Group II pipeline systems) and the relationship with the standard series is shown in the flowchart (Figure 1).The function of Group I pipeline systems is to transport hazardous fluids (see A.2.1) both by land and by sea. For Group I, the entire pipelines system as a whole shall satisfy the requirements of the standard; Group II pipeline systems (see A.2.2) are for transporting fluids other than in a).
