Page Count: | 42 |
scope:
This Defence Standard details requirements for the four principal types of glass fabric reinforcement for the production of ships, boats and craft and GRP structures. Laminate properties are expressed in conjunction with unsaturated isophthalic polyester resin.
NOTE Unsaturated isophthalic polyester resin has superior water resistance to orthophthalic resins.
The four types of reinforcement covered are:
Woven Roving Fabrics (WR), see Annex B.
Unidirectional Woven Roving Fabrics (Uni WR), see Annex C.
Random Fibre Fabrics (Chopped Strand Mat (CSM), see Annex D.
Combination Glass Fabrics - Material Requirements, see Annex E.
The laminate properties, fabric construction and performance required for the four types of reinforcement are detailed in the appropriate Annexes together with the designated level of compliance to this standard.
The test requirements to satisfy this standard, batch production sampling and user surveillance are included.
The materials currently approved to this Defence Standard are listed in Annex H.
