ATP-8 Volume I provides the doctrine necessary to execute amphibious operations and covers command and control, planning, types of amphibious operations, support of amphibious operations, logistics, and riverine operations.

ATP-8 Volume II describes amphibious tactics, techniques and procedures, and provides guidance for the execution of an amphibious operations and the ideal sequence of such an operation from its inception to its completion.

ATP-8 Volume II Supplement 1 contains specific technical information about national amphibious assets and is a guide for interoperability.

Purpose

ATP-8 provides common doctrine, tactics, techniques and procedures for amphibious operations and is a reference for the amphibious warfare chapter of ATP-1 Volume I.

ATP-8 is divided into two volumes and one supplement:

a. ATP-8 Volume I, Doctrine for Amphibious Operations

b. ATP-8 Volume II, Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for Amphibious Operations

c. ATP-8 Volume II, Supplement 1, National Amphibious Technical Information

The purpose of these three publications is to ensure a uniformity of amphibious operations while permitting tactical flexibility.
